Golden hens
Our hens are Golden Misri, a hardy breed that wears its name in its feathers. Zareen, meet Misri: a golden name for golden birds.
About Zareen Farms
Zareen Farms is a small free-range farm on the edge of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. We keep Golden Misri hens for eggs and raise cockerels for chicken, and we sell almost everything directly to families in the twin cities.
“I spent ten years building software. Then I wanted to build something you could eat.”
Why I started
For more than ten years I’ve built software. It’s a career I’m proud of, and almost all of it has lived on a screen.
But my roots are in the soil. Farming runs in my family, and somewhere between deadlines and late-night deploys, I kept coming back to it: real food, early mornings, work you can hold in your hands.
As an engineer, I trust what I can trace. So I started a farm I could trace end to end: hens outdoors in the sun, feed made to a written spec, a vet every week, and eggs at your door within 24 hours of being laid.
Same discipline I brought to software, applied to breakfast.
// zareen-farms/daily.ts while (sun.isUp()) { hens.roam(outdoors); hens.eat(grain, greens); eggs.collect({ timesPerDay: 3 }); } hens.sleep(safelyIndoors); deliver(eggs, { within: "24h" });
I still write code. Now I also collect eggs.

The name
Made of gold, or shining like it. It is the word Persian poets reached for when ordinary yellow wasn’t enough. We borrowed it for a farm where almost everything worth having is golden.
Our hens are Golden Misri, a hardy breed that wears its name in its feathers. Zareen, meet Misri: a golden name for golden birds.
Sunlight and fresh greens turn every yolk a deep, natural gold. We never add colour to the feed, so the gold is real.
Our hens spend the daylight outdoors, in the sun, and sleep safely indoors at night. Golden hours, every day.
All that glitters isn’t gold. Some of it is breakfast.
How we farm
Our hens are Golden Misri, a hardy brown-egg breed. We name the breed because you deserve to know what you are buying.
The hens roam fenced runs that we rotate so the ground can recover, and come indoors at night, away from jackals and the cold.
Grain-based feed made to our written spec: no antibiotic growth promoters, no added colour, no animal by-products. Fresh greens every day, which, with sunlight, is where the deep yolk colour comes from.
A vet visits every week. If a hen falls sick we treat her, and her eggs stay out of sale until the medicine has fully cleared. We will never let a bird suffer to protect a label.
Eggs are collected three times a day, checked, dated and at your door within 24 hours.
