Chilgoza by the fire and almonds in the morning: a guide to Pakistan's winter dry fruits.

By Hammad Tariq · 6 November 2026 · 2 min read

The favourites

  • Chilgoza: the winter treasure, rich in healthy fats
  • Mamra almonds: soaked and peeled each morning
  • Anjeer: fibre and natural sweetness
  • Pista and kaju: protein-rich snacks
  • Ajwa dates: energy and tradition

How much

A small handful (about 30 g) of nuts a day, plus 2–3 dried figs or dates, is a balanced amount for most adults.

Storing

Keep airtight in a cool, dark place, or in the fridge to stop nuts going rancid.
