Why eggs are such a good food
One egg gives about 6 g of complete protein, plus vitamin B12, vitamin D, choline (important for the brain) and lutein for the eyes. It's cheap, quick and loved by children.
How many eggs a day?
- Healthy adults: one to two eggs a day fits easily into a balanced diet.
- Children: one egg a day is a great source of protein for growing bodies.
- Active people and athletes: two to three eggs a day can help meet higher protein needs.
- If you have diabetes, heart disease or high cholesterol: ask your doctor what's right for you.
What about cholesterol?
Egg yolks contain cholesterol, but for most healthy people, eggs eaten as part of a balanced diet have a much smaller effect on blood cholesterol than once thought. What you eat with eggs (deep-fried parathas, processed meats) often matters more.
